69th United Nations General Assembly

The 69th UN General Assembly high-level week will take place from 21-26 September in New York. This year, the focus will be on the final push to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) before they expire at the end of 2015. It will also mark the launch of the formal intergovernmental negotiation process to determine the post-2015 development agenda, and one year until the post-2015 agenda is agreed (September 2015).

In addition to the official UN programme, the week is set to be very busy for the global health community. Numerous side events are planned throughout the week addressing issues as broad as NCDs, universal health coverage (UHC), maternal and newborn child health, and health in post-2015.

Key messages for the week

The high-level events around UNGA come at an opportune time for NCDs- immediately following the July 2014 UN NCD Review, and ahead of the intergovernmental process to determine the post-2015 agenda.

The NCD Alliance is also launching a new policy brief on the interplay between universal health coverage (UHC) and NCDs, and how these mutualy reinforcing agendas can advance health for all people, everywhere.
