The NCD Alliance is seeking a consultant to develop a brief on the role, distinct value and best practice of private philanthropy in the NCD response. The report will inform NCDA’s advocacy on sustainable financing, as well as processes to reimagine global health approaches and architecture.
The purpose or intended use of the review is for private philanthropy to be better able to identify ways to fund the NCD response, to highlight some examples, signpost potential interventions and to spark a conversation around areas which require further exploration.
The report is intended to particularly focus on philanthropy in sustainable NCD financing, as well as how philanthropy can play a catalytic role in supporting more integrated approaches to global health financing and health system strengthening (rather than vertical approaches), as well as supporting the current paradigm shifts in global health in light of the financing crises, shifting to country ownership.
The report is intended to cover the following areas:
- The current status of NCD and global health financing and existing financing gaps
- The role and distinct value of private philanthropy to address NCD financing gaps, as well as supporting current paradigm shifts in global health more broadly (e.g. Lusaka Agenda, the Accra Initiative);
- Analysis of some of the challenges of private philanthropy in the field of NCDs.
- Specific areas / priorities that private philanthropy can offer the greatest impact for the NCD response
- Best practice examples, illustrated through a series of case studies.
