NCD Action in a Changing World: Priorities for the fourth UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs and Mental Health

Date & time: Sunday, 18 May 2025, 15:30 – 16:45 CEST
Location: Campus Biotech, 9 Chemin des Mines, 1202 Geneva

Building on the momentum developed at the Global NCD Alliance Forum (Kigali, 13-15 February), and through the civil society participation in the UN Multistakeholder Hearing in (New York, 2nd May), NCD Alliance and World Heart Federation are organising a session at the World Heart Summit, on the sidelines of the 78th World Health Assembly. The event will seek to set the bar high for the fourth UN High-Level Meeting (HLM4) on NCDs and Mental Health and beyond. It will provide a platform for open dialogue on the urgent priorities and commitments that must be embedded in the UN HLM Political Declaration, ensuring bold, actionable measures to tackle the burden of NCDs in an evolving global health landscape.

Objectives:

  • Address the challenges in a changed world for global health since the 3rd UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs in 2018.
  • Take stock of the progress towards the 2025 global NCD targets, including the national implementation of the NCD “best buys”.
  • Spotlight effective national leadership and action on NCDs, as well as individual diseases such as cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).
  • Consider the triple win for health, economies and the planet from action on NCDs, including mental health and neurological conditions.
  • Discuss priorities for the upcoming HLM4 political declaration negotiations, reiterate calls for action raised at the multistakeholder hearing, and react to the zero draft of the political declaration.
  • Think beyond the HLM4 and its political declaration, to consider what national implementation and regional and global collaboration must deliver towards 2030 and beyond.
