Multi-stakeholder Hearings on Universal Health Coverage (UHC), Tuberculosis and Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response

03rd March 2023

A series of multi-stakeholder hearings on Universal Health Coverage (UHC), Tuberculosis (TB) and Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response (PPPR) have been announced by the President of the United Nations General Assembly, and will take place on May 8th and 9th, 2023.

These hearings mark a key moment for the NCD community to contribute to the High-Level Meetings process, and advance the prevention and control of NCDs together with other health priorities. The UN High-Level Meeting on UHC is a priority for NCDA and will take place on 21 September, 2023.

The Multi-stakeholder Hearing on UHC is an important input into the negotiated outcomes document for the upcoming HLM on UHC, and will inform the zero-draft.

We are calling on the NCD Alliance network to

  • Register to attend the hearings in New York – a vital opportunity for civil society and all stakeholders to share their priorities for the outcomes of the HLM on UHC, TB and PPPR.
  • Submit a statement on NCDS and UHC as part of your registration - see our key asks below.
  • Disseminate this opportunity widely among their own networks.

The HLM on PPPR which will take place on 20 September, and the HLM on TB will take place on 22 September. We are keen to also hear from those engaging in the TB and PPPR diagloues

The Hearings will be live-streamed, however this is not a hybrid event and there will be no opportunity to interact remotely.

In advance of the HLM on UHC, the NCD community has laid out four priorities to accelerate progress on the implementation of NCDs prevention and care policy globally and to achieve UHC. These are:

  • INVEST in the prevention and control of NCDs through adequate, predictable, and sustained resources for UHC.
  • ACCELERATE UHC implementation by including quality NCD prevention and care services in country UHC health benefit packages.
  • ALIGN development and global health priorities to achieve UHC.
  • ENGAGE people living with NCDs to keep UHC people-centered.

A comprehensive list of advocacy priorities can be found in our policy brief.
