NCDA's June webinar provided a recap on NCDs related discussions at the 70th World Health Assembly and an update on the upcoming WHO Global Conference on NCDs.
Yesterday, a historic 70th World Health Assembly that will be remembered for the election of WHO's next Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom concluded in Geneva.
Appendix III of the WHO Global Action Plan on NCDs provides policy makers with a menu of evidence-based policy options and cost-effective interventions for NCD prevention and control. When it was updated in 2017, there were some controversies.
The plan opens a new era in understanding, care and treatment – but governments must act now. The plan acknowledges that dementia is not a normal part of ageing and that those affected should be helped to live as well as possible.
"Stepping up the pace on NCDs: making 2018 count" is the theme of the Global NCD Alliance Forum, to be held from 9 to 11 December 2017, in Sharjah (UAE).
On 22 May, six high-level panelists discussed NCDs successes and challenges at a side event organised by NCDA in the margins of the 70th World Health Assembly, taking place this week in Geneva.
The NCD Alliance wishes to congratulate Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on his appointment as the next Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). Dr Tedros will take office on 1 July 2017.
We still have a long way to go to achieve the 25 by 25 NCD targets; UICC has supported the call for an updated cancer resolution, for duscission during the 70th World Health Assembly, that would provide governments with best-practice guidance in establishing the core disciplines and services for a holistic and impactful cancer response.
