The UICC has released its NCD Program for the 2014 World Cancer Congress. The World Cancer Congress is holding a NCD Program in acknowledgement that the challenges and successes experienced within the cancer community are applicable and shared by all of the NCDs communities. The WHO and Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI) have colaunched a paper on tobacco and dementia, discussing links between smoking and the risk of developing dementia. The paper also suggests both population level and individual level interventions to address this health burden. Click here to read the paper.

In the margins of the UN NCD Review, the Lancet NCD Action Group and the NCD Alliance are pleased to announce the launch of NCD Countdown 2025, an accoutnability initiative designed to capture NCD responses at the country level in order to improve government accountability and accelerate action among all stakeholders.

This week's three-day East African meeting on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) has drawn a charter calling for global action to inform the fight against chronic diseases.

In 2011, $7.7 billion was allocated to HIV/AIDS projects, while malaria, TB, and maternal, newborn and child health received $1.8 billion, $1.3 billion, and $6.1 billion respectively. NCDs received only 1.5% of all health aid. Sam Byfield explores the resons for these disparities in funding.
