Uganda NCD Alliance Receives Funding from Denmark for its Programmes

The Uganda NCD Alliance has received a $600,000 grant by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) through its partnership with the Danish NCD Alliance.

The financial commitment is part of an ongoing twinning initiative between Denmark and Uganda in an overall effort to reduce the burden of NCDs in Uganda, focusing primarily on treating cancer, diabetes and heart disease and reducing their common risk factors of tobacco use, unhealthy diet and lack of exercise.

Tobacco Control groups from different regions have recently published a joint paper in Global Heart titled  “WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and the United Nations High Level Meeting on Noncommunicable Diseases: Progress and Global Expectations”

The paper explores the implications and identifies the opportunities of the UN High Level Summit on Noncommunicable Diseases for the implementation of the WHO FCTC from a multi-regional perspective.

BRICS pledge to fight NCDs, promote equal access to care

UN General Assembly adopts resolution on Universal Health Coverage

The Global Health and Foreign Policy resolution on the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) was unanimously agreed.

Few countries specified the importance of UHC for the prevention and control of NCDs. The USA specifically mentioned strong support for equal access to care based on the principles of Affordable Care Act and challlenges related to access to medicines.

Uganda NCD Alliance hosts a Patient Empowerment Day in Kampala

On December 15th, the Uganda NCD Alliance organized an Patient Empowerment Day, where all the countries top NCD doctors, educators, screeners and counsellors travelled into a rurual community on the outskirts of Kampala to provide a comprehensive set of integrated NCD services for members of the community. 

They hope to continue to organize them on a monthly basis across rural communities in Uganda and serve as an inspiration for other National NCD Alliances.

FCA Daily Bulletins from the fifth FCTC Conference of the Parties 12-17 November

The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the governing body of the WHO FCTC which comprises of all the Parties to the Convention. It regularly reviews and adopts measures to improve the implementation of the Convention and sessions are held at two year intervals.
