NCDs: Tsunami' of Diseases Waiting to Hit

NCDs were widely discussed this week at a conference organised by the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) on World Cancer Day in Geneva.

Cary Adams, the CEO of UICC and the current Chair of the NCD Alliance, spoke on the increasing burden of NCDs and how there should be a multi-sectoral approach to tackle the 'tsunami of NCDs.'

Uganda NCD Alliance Receives Funding from Denmark for its Programmes

The Uganda NCD Alliance has received a $600,000 grant by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) through its partnership with the Danish NCD Alliance.

The financial commitment is part of an ongoing twinning initiative between Denmark and Uganda in an overall effort to reduce the burden of NCDs in Uganda, focusing primarily on treating cancer, diabetes and heart disease and reducing their common risk factors of tobacco use, unhealthy diet and lack of exercise.

UN General Assembly adopts resolution on Universal Health Coverage

The Global Health and Foreign Policy resolution on the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) was unanimously agreed.

Few countries specified the importance of UHC for the prevention and control of NCDs. The USA specifically mentioned strong support for equal access to care based on the principles of Affordable Care Act and challlenges related to access to medicines.
