José Luis Castro serves as the WHO Director-General’s Special Envoy for Chronic Respiratory Diseases, where he leads global advocacy to elevate lung health on the international agenda. He founded and led Vital Strategies for two decades, growing it into an organization with annual budget over $100 million, active in 80+ countries, and previously served as Executive Director of The Union. A past President of the NCD Alliance and co-founder of the Global TB Caucus, he has championed political commitment for NCDs and TB at the highest levels. He also Pace Center for Global Health in New York. With degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Pace University, Castro combines advocacy, implementation, and scholarship in global health.
