From commitments to clean air: building cross-sector CSO engagement

26th Noviembre 2026 · 10:30 - 15:30 CET

On 26 November, after the UN Forum on Business and Human Rights, NCD Alliance is organising this convening following recent developments on air pollution and health. In 2025, Member States agreed to a target of 50% reduction in mortality from anthropogenic sources of air pollution by 2040, and the Political Declaration of the 4th UN High Level Meeting on NCDs and Mental Health included several dedicated commitments to address air pollution.

Recognising that many clean air policies require the collaboration and participation of sectors outside of health, the session aims to strengthen relationships between the public health community with other civil society actors working on this area (i.e., environment, human rights, development NGOS), exchange on strongest narratives and current advocacy opportunities across sectors, and to identify opportunities to work collaboratively to support implementation of clean air policies with co-benefits at the regional and national levels.

Objectives

  • strengthen relationship building and collaboration between different civil society constituencies working on air pollution and climate change;
  • share with the broader civil society community the latest developments, recommendations and advocacy opportunities related to air pollution, climate change and health;
  • learn from other sectors about emerging evidence, policy developments, and recommendations on air pollution and climate change that can be leveraged by the public health community;
  • develop joint key messages and advocacy strategies to enable cross-sector mobilisation to support the implementation of effective interventions at the national and local level.

This event is possible thanks to support from Haleon.

This is a closed-door civil society convening. If you wish to take part in it, please contact larnanz@ncdalliance.org and rstanton@ncdalliance.org
