Public Space: an invaluable resource to deliver sustainable urban health

Tuesday 5 April we will physically launch the brief “NCDs and climate change: Shared opportunities for action” at a side event in Barcelona, co-hosted with HealthBridge, WHO, Smarter Than Car and the Low Carbon City Forum.

Public spaces offer distinct opportunities to protect public health for all people living in cities. Through this side event co-hosted with HealthBridge, WHO, Smarter Than Car and the Low Carbon City Forum, we aim to:

  • understand the links between public space, public health and climate change;
  • identify good practice for and barriers to improving public space with a focus on case studies featuring recreational public space, walking and cycling, and access to local public markets; and,
  • formulate recommendations for policy development and implementation to ensure effective NCD prevention and climate change mitigation.

Speakers:

Ms Kristie Daniel, Program Director, Livable Cities, HealthBridge

Dr Nathalie Röbbel, Technical Officer, Public Health, Environmental and Social Determinants of Health, World Health Organization

Mr Florian Lorenz, Director, Smarter Than Car

Moderator:

Ms Katie Dain, Executive Director, NCD Alliance
