An important aspect of NCD Alliance's capacity building and knowledge exchange activities is facilitating connections between those working in, influencing, researching, acting in the NCD space.
Global NCD Alliance Forum 2015
The NCD Alliance convened over 200 NCD leaders for the the first ever Global NCD Alliance Forum on 13th-15th November 2015 in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, Founder and Royal Patron of FoCP, International Ambassador of the World Cancer Declaration for Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and International Ambassador for Childhood Cancer for UICC, is the Forum’s Patron as part of her commitment to the fight against cancer and NCDs. The Forum is organised in partnership with local host organisation, Friends of Cancer Patients (FoCP).
For the first time, the Forum brought together representatives from the growing network of national and regional NCD alliances, international NGOs, multilateral organisations, governments, and the private sector. With two days of plenary sessions, interactive workshops and networking sessions, the Forum provided a platform for civil society capacity building, knowledge exchange and sharing of good practice, and stimulating collaboration and new partnerships.
The Second Global NCD Alliance Forum is set to be held in Sharjah in late 2017.
NCD Cafés and Dialogues
NCD Café and the NCD Dialogues are hosted at various international world congresses during the year by members of the Supporters Consultation Group with the assistance of the NCD Alliance. They provide interactive platforms for open discussions on key topics in the field of NCDs and global health, as well as a space for networking with prominent expert and thought leaders, with an emphasis on partnership and collaboration.
NCD Alliance also coordinates and co-hosts high level side events relevant to the wider NCD community alongside multilateral and bilateral meetings, such as conferences, World Health Assembly and United Nations General Assembly. These have included publication launches, civil society briefings and panel discussions.
