BRICS pledge to fight NCDs, promote equal access to care

Following a 2-day meeting last week, members of BRICS have pledged their commitment to collaborate in order to provide citizens with the prevention, treatment, and care necessary to fight non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

Health ministers from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa recognized the need to fulfill the commitments made in the Delhi Communique, which in addition to comprehensive NCD care, highlights HIV, tuberculosis, and commitment to the WHO FCTC. Ministers also recalled the recent UN General Assembly resolution on the importance of universal health coverage and committed to work to achieve UHC.
