Call for cases: Public-private interactions in nutrition-related NCDs: Lessons from research, policy and practice

16th June 2016

Multisectoral initiatives such as public-private interactions on nutrition-related NCDs are currently under the spotlight as they may give rise to a range of ethical challenges, including conflicts of interest.

Last week the WHO launched the report of a recent technical consultation on addressing and managing conflicts of interest in nutrition programmes at country level. It identified the need to raise awareness and support action on strengthening nutrition governance to avoid and/or manage conflicts of interests. These needs were reflected in a project undertaken by CIHR-IPPH and UKHF.

This Casebook is seeking submissions on public-private interactions involving the for-profit commercial sector in the prevention of nutrition-related NCDs. It will be funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research – Institute of Population and Public Health (CIHR-IPPH), and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), with in-kind contributions from the UK Health Forum (UKHF).

The Casebook will aim to raise awareness and support action to strengthen the governance of interactions on nutrition-related non-communicable diseases and prevent conflicts of interest.

Cases documenting both positive as well as negative experiences are encouraged, as are submissions from low and middle income countries. Cases may be submitted from other risk factor areas where they offer transferable lessons for nutrition-related NCDs.

The deadline for abstract submissions is 15 July, 2016.
