Co-chairs' statement from the 2016 WHO GCM/NCD Global Dialogue

10th November 2016

The WHO GCM/NCD Global Dialogue took place in Balaclava, Mauritius between 19 and 21 October 2016, on the role of non-State actors in supporting Member States in their national efforts to tackle noncommunicable diseases as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Co-Chairs’ Statement that resulted from the Dialogue is available on the GCM/NCD website. The statement, issued by the Governments of France and Mauritius, regards the roles of non-State actors (namely nongovernmental organizations, private sector, philanthropic organizations, and academic institutions) and includes specific recommendations for the different groups of actors as they support governments in advancing NCD prevention and control.

To note, the statement finishes with a strong call for investment in NCD civil society: " [...] we call on international development donors to increase and sustain their investments in enhancing the capacity of relevant national NGOs to ensure their full and active participation in the development and implementation of national NCDs responses [...]"

The WHO GCM/NCD will be producing a report of the outcome of the Global Dialogue proceedings  This report will synthesize the discussions and provide recommendations on how to translate the Dialogue conversations into meaningful actions. The Co-Chairs Statement and the report will contribute to the discussions leading up to the third UN High-level Meeting on NCDs in 2018.
