East Africa: Regional advocacy planning in focus

07th April 2016

The 2nd Capacity building workshop of the East Africa NCD Alliance will be taking place in Nairobi this 8th-9th April. The workshop is organised by the East Africa NCD Alliance, the Danish NCD alliance and the NCD Alliance.

The workshop will convene civil society representatives from the East Africa region, specifically the NCD alliances of Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Burundi, Uganda and Rwanda. The workshop will focus on regional advocacy planning within the context of the opportunities posed by Agenda 2030 and the 2018 UN High level Meeting on NCDs.

It will also discuss data and research needs for decision making, and develop capacity for resource mobilisation. This workshop will aim to advance regional advocacy efforts to support the prioritisation of NCDs in the agendas of regional bodies such as WHO AFRO, the East African Community and the African Union.

The workshop will also promote networking by bridging alliances with the Young Professional Chronic Disease Network membership. Civil society representatives from Cameroon and Ethiopia will also be joining the workshop and engaging in discussions regarding the emerging Africa NCDs Network.
