Final push for health and NCDs in post-2015 negotiations

23rd July 2015

The final post-2015 intergovernmental negotiations are underway in New York. The session, which began on Monday and continues through Friday 31 July, is focused on reactions to the final draft Outcome Document to adopt the Post-2015 Agenda.

The Outcome Document contains five parts -the preamble, the Declaration, the SDGs and targets, means of implementation and global partnership, and follow up and review, plus several annexes. Together, these form the entirety of the post-2015 agenda.

The Declaration, which is meant to provide the vision of the agenda, notes that our future world should be free of disease, should provide universal access to health care, and should assure physical, mental and social well-being. It also calls stakeholders to "devote greater efforts to tackling NCDs". While this language is a good starting point, civil society including the NCD Alliance are now advocating for stronger, more action-oriented language to secure the most ambitious outcome document possible.
