Members of GCM Working Groups Announced, Documents Open for Comment

Following nominations by Member States in November 2014 of proposed members for the Working Groups of the WHO Global Coordination Mechanism on NCDs (GCM/NCD), the proposed members have now been published.

These working groups are tasked with realizing the commitments made in paragraphs 44 and 45(d) of the 2011 Political Declaration on NCDs. 73 male and 45 female names were considered. The list of the working group for realising governments’ commitments to engage with the private sector for NCD prevention and control can be found here, and that for the working group on realizing governments’ commitments to provide financing for NCDs is here.

Both groups will meet for the first time in February 2015.Documents for these meetings have been published, open for comment until 6 February 2015. In addition to a discussion paper for each, 5 policy briefs have been prepared for the working group on private sector engagement (on marketing to children, production and promotion of healthy foods, enabling environments for healthy behaviours among workers, reducing salt content, and improving access to and affordability of medicines and technologies) available here; and 3 for the private sector working group (on domestic financing; bilateral and multilateral financing; and innovatove financing), available here

  • 18-19 February: First meeting of the WHO GCM/NCD working group on paragraph 44 (private sector)
  • 23-24 February: First meeting of the WHO working group on paragraph 45(d) (financing)
