NCD Alliance Nigeria conducts UN HLM on NCDs advocacy visits with decision makers

In preparation for the UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs, the NCD Alliance Nigeria has proactively continued to inform and interact with stakeholders at high levels of Government, National Media and partners in the West African region.

In the month of May, NCD Alliance Nigeria team visited the Honourable Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole to interact with him on the country's plan for the forthcoming UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs in September 2018. The minister assured the advocates that he will personally convey a letter from the NCD Alliance Nigeria to President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria, which encourages him to engage in the 2018 UN HLM on NCDs.

In continuation, in June 2018 a delegation of NCD Alliance Nigeria representatives visited the Presidency, Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and had interactions with the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Princess Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire with focus on NCDs.

On further advocacy consultations for the forthcoming UN High-Level Meeting, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, pledged her support for the UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs given that NCDs have now been included in the SDGs. She further pledged to follow her support with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Nigeria and other line Ministries and development partners on NCDs.

An advocacy visit was also made to the office of the Executive Director (News), Nigerian Television Authority Headquarters Abuja, where the team was received by Mallam Mallam Aliyu Baba Barau. He demonstrated his wide knowledge about the increasing prevalence of NCDs in Nigeria especially heart attacks, stroke, and cancer. He pledged to promote the dissemination of information on NCDs to the population.
