SIDS Conference: Helen Clark emphasizes developmental drivers of NCDs

Helen Clark: Speech at Side event on NCDs, Health and Development at UN Conference on Small Island Developing States 

UN Administrator Helen Clark addressed SIDS delegates at a side event on NCDs highlighting the developmental drivers of the NCD epidemic in Small Island Development States (SIDS). 

According to Clark, "the post-2015 development agenda is an opportunity to ensure that good health is recognized as a gateway to sustainable development progress". She furthermore suggested that the health goal recently proposed by the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals - “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages” with a proposed target of a one-third reduction in premature mortality from NCDs, through prevention and treatment, by 2030 - is of particular relevance to SIDS.
