World Alzheimer Report 2015 launched

Today, over 46 million people are living with dementia, and by 2050 this number will have risen to 131.5 million. In just three years’ time, the global economic cost of dementia will reach US $1 trillion.
World Alzheimer Report 2015, The Global Impact of Dementia: An analysis of prevalence, incidence, cost and trends, was launched yesterday in London by Alzehimer's Disease International (ADI). The report makes key recommendations to provide a global framework for action on dementia.
Key findings
• 46.8 million people worldwide are living with dementia in 2015. This number will reach 74.7 million in 2030 and over 131.5 million by 2050.
• There will be 9.9 million new cases of dementia in 2015, or one every 3 seconds.
• Much of the increase will take place in low and middle income countries (LMICs): in 2015, 58% of all people with dementia live in what are currently classified as LMICs, rising to 63% in 2030 and 68% in 2050.
• The total estimated worldwide cost of dementia in 2015 is US$ 818 billion. In just 3 years' time, this will have increased to $1 trillion. By 2030, this will have risen to $2 trillion.
