The Global Alliance for Tobacco Control (GATC)’s vision is a world where people can live a healthy live free from the devastating health social, economic and environmental consequences of tobacco.

The GATC is a civil society alliance whose mission is to unite the global tobacco control community and serve as the voice of civil society to accelerate implementation of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), while integrating tobacco control in the global health and development agendas.

About Global Alliance for Tobacco Control 

GATC, formerly Framework Convention Alliance (FCA), was created in 1999 and formally established in 2003. The organisation formally transitioned from FCA to GATC in November 2022. GATC works on the development, ratification and implementation of the international treaty, the WHO Framework on Tobacco Control (FCTC). The WHO FCTC is the world's first modern day global public health treaty. It requires Parties to adopt a comprehensive range of measures designed to reduce the devastating health and economic impacts of tobacco.

Global Alliance for Tobacco Control's work on NCD prevention and tobacco control

GATC is a leading advocate for including the FCTC and global tobacco control in the international health and development framework, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that were adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015. GATC's work is overseen by an elected Board of Directors. The executive director leads the staff, which is based in every WHO region.
