We are pleased to announce the launch of the WHO SEARO and NCD Alliance mapping of civil society organisations working to prevent and control NCDs in the South East Asia Region (SEAR).
The mapping aims to describe the current status of civil society action on NCDs in the region, its challenges, gaps and needs.
The background paper served as a basis to inform discussions at the SEAR NCD Civil Society Meeting, held last week in New Delhi. This meeting was part of a series of regional preparatory meetings that are being organised in the lead up to the first ever Global NCD Alliance Forum, to be held in Sharjah in November 2015.
NCDs are top killers in the South-East Asia Region, claiming an estimated 8.5 million lives each year. One third of these deaths are premature and occur before the age of 70 years, thus affecting economically productive individuals.
