29th June 2016
The first High-level Political Forum (HLPF) following the adoption of the 2030 Agenda will take place in New York 11 - 20 July. The HLPF is the main review mechanism for the 2030 Agenda, and will feature 22 voluntary national reviews of progress towards achieving the SDGs, roundtable discussions, and a general debate. The roundtable sessions will begin on 11 July, and the high-level ministerial section will take place from 18 - 20 July; voluntary national reviews will be held 19 - 20 July.
The roundtable sessions will focus on various themes of the 2030 Agenda, such as promoting an inclusive world by 2030, eliminating extreme poverty, fostering economic growth, and empowering girls and women.
A draft resolution on the working methods of the HLPF over the next four years has been agreed. Member States have agreed to review a subset of goals every year to allow for an in depth discussion of each; SDG 3 on health is to be reviewed in 2017.
Final negotiations on the Ministerial Declaration of the HLPF are ongoing, and an outcome is expected by 8 July. This Declaration will be adopted during the HLPF.
The final schedule of side events will be posted on the HLPF website soon.
