Consultation now open: preliminary report of WHO High-Level Commission

10th May 2018

The preliminary report (dated 1 May) of the WHO High-Level Commission on NCDs is now available online for consultation, from 10-16 May. The report seeks to collate inputs from multiple expert and high-level sources to distil innovative and transformative recommendations which will inform negotiations on the Outcome Document of the third UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs in September.

Member States, UN organisations, NGOs, private sector entities, philanthropic foundations, and academic institutions are invited to submit their comments by email to [email protected] by 16 May 2018.

Members of the WHO Independent High-Level Commission on NCDs met for the third time on Monday 7 May prior to the launch of this consultation, with discussions chaired by commission co-chair Dr Sania Nishtar. The meeting included a review of the recommendations made during the technical consultations held in Geneva on 21-22 March.

The final version of the report is scheduled to be launched in Geneva on 1 June. The launch will be followed by a mission briefing in New York on 14 June to ensure that UN Member States are aware of the recommendations of the report ahead of negotiations on the Outcome Document of the HLM on NCDs.

NCD Alliance CEO Katie Dain is a Commissioner. In addition to Dr Sania Nishtar, other co-chairs are:

  • Sauli Niinistö, President of Finland
  • Maithripala Sirisena, President of Sri Lanka
  • Tabaré Vázquez, President of Uruguay
  • Veronika Skvortsova, Minister of Healthcare, Russian Federation
