Three years ago, on 12 December 2012, the United Nations unanimously endorsed a resolution urging governments to ensure universal access to quality health care without financial hardship. Now the United Nations has included universal health coverage in the new Sustainable Development Goals. 

On 12 December 2015 a global coalition will call for greater action on delivering universal health coverage. UHC can provide a powerful vehicle to accelerata progress on NCD outcomes, inequalities and socio-economic impact. The NCD Alliance joins over 600 global partners as a supporter of UHC Day. 

To coincide with UHC Day, PATH is launching a Call to Action entitled 'No empty shelves', which calls for access, availability, and affordability of essential medicines and technologies for NCDS. Signatories are calling for policy makers to integrate NCDs into activities to strengthen the health and supply systems in the public and private sectors, including strategies to achieve UHC, with additional actions for multilateral institutions and technical partners, financial contributors, advocates, and the private sector.
