Nigeria takes multisectoral action against NCDs

07th February 2019

Nigerian Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, convened a High-Level Meeting in Abuja to elicit support of the key stakeholders for the Multisectoral Action Plan on Non-communicable Diseases.

This event was the culmination of two years of advocacy from the NCD Alliance Nigeria and its civil society partners. The participants expressed their support for the adapted WHO "Best Buys" interventions to combat NCDs in a cost-effective / high-impact fashion.

In his remarks, Prof Sani Malami (Executive Director of NCD Alliance Nigeria), challenged participants to take full ownership of the fight against NCDs.

The World Health Organization (WHO), represented by Mr Rex Mpasanje, facilitated the discussions and brainstorming-sessions with health experts, government representatives, and academia who agreed on joint implementation of the plan.

The meeting was organized with the support of the WHO and Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF).
