Post-2015: Intergovernmental negotiations update

26th March 2015

Member States are meeting at UN Headquarters this week for the third session of intergovernmental negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda. The theme this week is “sustainable development goals and targets.” The programme for the session included a presentation and general discussion of the provisional list of indicators for SDGs, proposed technical revisions to a small number of targets, and ways forward to agree the final agenda in time for the UN Summit in September.

Overall, Member States are unanimous in their desire not to disrupt the balance of the SDGs and targets with any significant changes, which would leave the current proposed framework intact. However, questions remain if and how any targets will be refined, and to what extent indicators will be a part of the final framework.
