By 2030, deaths from NCDs in Africa “are projected to exceed deaths due to communicable, maternal, perinatal and nutritional diseases combined” (WHO).

Universal Health Coverage and multisectoral action will be themes of the NCD Café that NCD Alliance is hosting at the AMREF Africa Health Agenda International Conference 2019.

The theme for this conference from 5-7 March in Kigali, Rwanda, Co-hosted by Amref Health Africa and Rwanda’s Ministry of Health is: 2030 Now: Multi-sectoral Action to Achieve Universal Health Coverage in Africa 

Universal Health Coverage means ensuring that everyone, everywhere, can access essential quality health services without facing financial hardship. With NCDs ravaging households and societies, the need for UHC has never been more urgent.

In May 2017, the Zambia NCD Alliance joined the Zambia Heart and Stroke Foundation and other organisations to conduct a national cross-sectional blood pressure (BP) survey of adults aged 18 years and above.

VALD, a member of the Ghana Non Communicable Diseases Alliance, in June 2017 convened a high-level round table meeting to draw a link between tobacco and development and make tobacco control a national development priority.
