Every year on the second Thursday of March, World Kidney Day (WKD) celebrate the importance of our kidney globally. As the 18th WKD approaches on 9 March, we invite everyone to mark WKD in their community and spread the WKD message.

This Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) summit (organised by NCD Alliance partner AstraZeneca) takes place Thursday 10 March (11.00-14.00 CET). Coinciding with World Kidney Day, this event will explore how to tackle the socioeconomic and environmenal burden of CKD, strengthen kidney health care as part of pandemic recovery and development of future resilience. 

World Kidney Day is an annual campagin to help raise awareness of kidneys and show the suffering caused when they don't work properly. It also aims to educate people on what kidneys do and how to improve your kidney health. 

World Kidney Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys to our overall health and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide.

In 2020, World Kidney Day was to be marked on March 12. On March 11, WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic. Where does this leave a health communication campaign?

This year, in its 15th reiteration, World Kidney Day 2020 will be marked on March 12. WKD 2020 calls on everyone to advocate for concrete measures in every country to advance kidney disease prevention.
