The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR)

The IADR Mission is to drive dental, oral and craniofacial research to advance health and well-being worldwide. The IADR Vision is oral health for the world through discovery and dissemination.

IADR is part of the NCD Alliance because oral diseases are the world’s most prevalent NCDs, resulting in considerable health and economic burdens to populations, and share common risk factors with the four main NCD’s (cardiovascular, respiratory, cancer and diabetes).

About IADR

IADR is a membership-based association with over 10,000 members that supports and represents the oral health research community and facilitates the communication and application of research findings for the improvement of oral health worldwide.

IADR is the global leader in dental, oral and craniofacial research, providing its members with opportunities to present their research, network and collaborate with colleagues and publish their cutting-edge research in one of the two IADR journals, the top-ranked Journal of Dental Research and the JDR Clinical & Translational Research.

IADR’s international collaboration brings together researchers, institutions, corporations and influencers to advocate for research opportunities and ultimately to disseminate research findings which help improve oral health worldwide.

IADR has 45 Divisions and Sections around the world and members in 111 countries. Members are also members of 32 different Scientific Groups and Networks representing the full continuum of research across all dental, oral and craniofacial diseases. Members are involved in basic science, clinical and translational research, implementation and delivery research and community and global health research.

IADR's work on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs)

IADR is one of two oral health NGOs in official relations with the World Health Organization (WHO), the other being the FDI World Dental Federation — an NCD Alliance NGO partner.

IADR partners with the WHO on such programs as the World Congress on Preventive Dentistry held most recently in New Delhi, India with a focus on the prevention of oral cancer, but also other oral diseases. Through its annual general session, the IADR provides an opportunity for researchers to present their latest finding on the prevention and treatment of oral diseases. At the 2018 IADR General Session in London (United Kingdom), NCD Alliance Chief Executive Officer Katie Dain presented as part of the symposium “Leveraging the NCD Alliance for Prioritising Global Oral Health Research.”
