Civil society plays a critical role in catalysing NCD related action at the global, regional, national and local levels.
With a new and ambitious vision for health and NCDs under the Sustainable Development Goals, the NCD movement is set to gain renewed momentum to deliver its primary roles in awareness, advocacy, accountability and access to services.
A growing network of over 52 national and regional NCD alliances is working to strengthen the NCD response in their countries and regions.
The expected outcomes of the Global NCD Alliance Forum 2017 are:
- An enhanced understanding of needs, challenges and lessons learnt of national and regional NCD alliances in advancing NCD action at the local, national and regional levels.
- A unified and coordinated civil society response with clear advocacy objectives and priorities leading to the 2018 UN High Level Meeting (HLM) on NCDs.
- Strengthened capacity within alliances to engage key stakeholders like people living with NCDs and youth through the launch of the Advocacy Agenda of People Living with NCDs.
- Strengthened capacity within alliances to foster partnerships and undertake issue-based advocacy with key stakeholders in the sustainable development arena.
