A joint mission of the United Nations Inter Agency Task Force (UNIATF) on the Prevention and Control of NCDs visited India from 8-12 December with the goal of enhancing UN support to the Government of India to scale up the national multisectoral response to NCDs. The country mission called for a transition from policy making to implementation of selected priority NCD actions. Speaking about the significance of the mission, WHO Representative to India, Dr Nata Menabde said, “It was a timely initiative since NCDs are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in India, leading to economic losses.”
During the visit, the UNIATF country mission also convened a meeting with key civil society partners, including Dr Srinath Reddy, President of the World Heart Foundation, and Dr Shoba John, Programme Director at HealthBridge.
