In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the first Political Declaration on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs), which recognised NCDs as one of the major sustinable development challenges of the 21st century.
Since then, we’ve seen many high-level political commitments to prevent and control NCDs, but action has been slow to follow. Most countries are off-track to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 3.4., and international development assistance for NCDs remains too low to address the world’s leading cause of death.
