NCD Civil Society Atlas 2017: National and Regional NCD Alliances in Action
The NCD Civil Society Atlas highlights the growing role of civil society in strengthening the global response to noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). National and regional NCD alliances bring together organisations to coordinate action, raise awareness, improve access to services, advocate for policy change, and promote accountability.
Since the first situational analysis in 2015, the NCD civil society movement has continued to expand, with 55 alliances now active worldwide. Drawing from global submissions, the atlas showcases 38 initiatives from 22 national and four regional alliances, grouped into four categories of civil society action.
The atlas captures emerging trends, success factors, and the tangible contributions of alliances—especially in low-income countries—through strengthened partnerships and collective advocacy. It also supports ongoing efforts to elevate civil society leadership in the NCD response and recognises outstanding initiatives through the Sharjah Award for Excellence.
