For the last 13 years, the NCD Alliance has worked tirelessly with civil society, people living with NCDs, governments and all actors to ensure everyone can live a healthy and productive life, free from the preventable suffering, stigma, disability and death caused by NCDs. In 2022, we remained steadfast against this vision and our conviction that progress is possible.
Over the course of 2021, we have been able to achieve some extraordinary results – many of which are documented in this report. Our sustained efforts to strengthen the capacity of NCDA members and alliances at national and regional levels, particularly in LMICs, and promote the meaningful involvement of civil society and people living with NCDs in the response is paying off.
In 2020, the NCD Alliance (NCDA) commissioned Global Health Visions (GHV) to undertake an independent evaluation of NCDA’s efforts to achieve its aims and objectives as set out in its 2016–2020 Strategic Plan, and to provide strategic and organisational recommendations to inform NCDA’s strategic planning process for 2021–2026. This document presents the NCDA Board’s response to the GHV independent evaluation recommendations, including decisions on next steps and timelines.
Global Health Visions (GHV) was commissioned by the NCD Alliance to carry out an independent, external review of our efforts to achieve our aims and objectives as set out in its 2016–2020 Strategic Plan, and to provide strategic and organisational recommendations to inform the strategic planning process for 2021–2026. GHV’s review sought to gather diverse perspectives on the NCD Alliance’s organisational development, overall impact, most remarkable achievements, and key challenges or missed opportunities over the past five years.
The NCD Alliance is pleased to announce the launch of our 2021-2026 Strategy, which is built upon four pathways of action: advocacy and accountability, capacity development, knowledge and partnerships.
For the NCD Alliance, 2020 has been a year dominated by COVID-19, requiring us to adapt organisationally, strategically and financially to the global pandemic and the virtual way of working. NCDA successfully pivoted many of our main functions to virtual platforms, including capacity development training programmes, high-level advocacy events, and media briefings for journalists.
The 2019 annual report provides a snapshot of the activities and achievements of NCDA and our extensive constituency. It also includes a summary of financial statements. The report serves as a testament and heartfelt thank you to our community as we move ever closer towards meeting our common goal: to reduce the NCD burden for people everywhere.
The NCD Alliance Constitution was approved in May 2017, when NCDA became a non-governmental organisation (NGO), based in Geneva (Switzerland); and it was subsequently revised in August 2020.
