Codex: Survey on Civil Society Engagement
The Codex Alimentarius Commission (Codex) is the the international standard-setting body responsible for developing food standards, guidelines, and codes of practice that protect consumer health and promote fair practices in food trade. The NCD Alliance (NCDA), in collaboration with Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL), is developing a Practical Guide for Civil Society Engagement in Codex to help health-focused civil society organizations (CSOs) engage more effectively in Codex processes at both national and global levels.
To inform the development of this guide, we are conducting a survey until 13 September 2026 to better understand current CSO engagement in Codex, assess organizational capacity and interest in participation, and identify key barriers, opportunities, and support needs. While the primary focus is on understanding CSO experiences and perspectives, we are also seeking input from a broader range of stakeholders, including international governmental bodies, to better understand the value they see in CSO engagement and the solutions they identify for strengthening participation. The findings will help ensure that the guide is practical, relevant, and responsive to the experiences, priorities, and needs of stakeholders working to advance public health and nutrition objectives through Codex.
Survey responses will not be anonymous to NCDA; however, all responses will be reported in aggregate and used in a non-identifiable manner in the development of the guide. Any examples, experiences, quotations, or other potentially identifiable information shared through this survey will only be included in the Practical Guide with the respondent's explicit prior consent; respondents will be contacted directly to seek permission before such information is used.
