We applaud governments for adopting the HLM4 Political Declaration, welcoming governments’ commitment to establishing new NCD targets and recommitment to many of the previous High-Level Meetings’ principles.

However, we express our strong concern about the significant influence of health-harming industries, which weakened the outcome, including less ambitious commitments on NCD prevention, the removal of the health taxes target, and the omission of any reference to fossil fuels as key drivers of NCDs.

Learn more about our call to governments in our Constituency Statement on Agenda Item 6 of the 158th Session of the WHO Executive Board (EB158): Follow-up to the political declaration of the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases.

The statement is coordinated by NCD Alliance and supported by PATH, World Cancer Research Fund International, International Psycho-Oncology Society, International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, International Society of Nephrology, International Society for Biomedical Research on Alcohol (ISBRA), HelpAge International, International Alliance of Patients’ Organizations (IAPO), International Diabetes Federation, Global Alliance for Tobacco Control, Alzheimer’s Disease International, Vital Strategies.
