Established in 1924, the Novo Nordisk Foundation is an independent Danish enterprise foundation with philanthropic objectives. A non-profit organisation, it supports scientific, humanitarian and social causes using funds deriving from its ownership of and investment in companies and other financial assets. Headquartered in Denmark, the Novo Nordisk Foundation supports a wide range of international activities and has regional offices in India and East Africa as well as representation in Brussels and the US.
The vision of the foundation is to improve people’s health and the sustainability of society and the planet. Through grants and philanthropic investments, it supports research, innovation, education and development initiatives that seek to address major societal challenges.
Within NCDs, the foundation views the escalating burden globally of cardiometabolic diseases as a pressing health issue but also as an equity concern. Thus, focusing on prevention and management of cardiometabolic diseases, it supports activities that contribute to better disease understanding, improving clinical care and ensuring equitable access to prevention and care, including for people in vulnerable positions.
In addition to this, the foundation has a focus on promoting sustainable agricultural food systems as a pathway to enhancing food security. This work is in turn also linked to the foundation’s efforts to promote healthier populations and a reduced burden of CMDs.
