First WHO Ministerial Conference on Global Action Against Dementia begins today!

On 16 and 17 March 2015, WHO will be hosting its first Ministerial Conference on Global Action Against Dementia. Ministers from around the world, as well as experts from the research, clinical and NGO communities, are coming together in Geneva for the first time to discuss the global problems posed by dementia.

The aim of the conference is to raise awareness of the socio-economic burden created by dementia, and to highlight that this burden can be reduced if the world collectively commits to placing dementia high on the global public health agenda.

NCDs front and centre at WCTOH 2015

The 16th World Conference on Tobacco or Health (WCTOH) will be held from 17 to 21 March 2015 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). This is the world's largest gathering of tobacco control advocates, policy makers, researchers, public health and clinical experts.

Her Royal Highness Princess Dina Mired of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, World Health Organisation Director. General Dr Margaret Chan, and Michael R Bloomberg will be among the speakers to address delegates to the WCTOH.

Kidney Health for All

12 March is World Kidney Day. The Theme for 2015 is "Kidney Health For All". Between 8-10% of the global adult population have some form of kidney damage, and every year millions die prematurely of complications related to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).

Factors which can lead to an increased risk of CKD include diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, smoking and obesity.
