The State of the Global Health Workforce side event, held on Monday, September 22 from 4–5:30 p.m. at Scandinavia House in New York, convened participants from UN permanent missions, global health agencies, civil society, philanthropies, NCD Alliance members and the private sector.

Co-hosted by the American College of Cardiology, the NCD Alliance, and the World Heart Federation, with sponsorship from Viatris, the event was designed to inform UNGA80 discussions ahead of the Fourth High-level Meeting on NCDs and Mental Health.

The session highlighted NCD Alliance's policy report "Staffed, Skilled, Supported and Sustainable Financed" and new findings from NCD Academy workforce surveys, showcased innovative models for capacity building, including digital solutions, multidisciplinary team approaches, and public-private partnerships.

The newly opened WHO Academy also shared their existing resources focused on NCDs and plans for further strengthening the curriculum.

The discussion focused on how policymakers and partners can advance coordinated action on NCD workforce investment and training.

It also convened a panel highlighting the lived experience of community health workers to highlight the importance not only of financing and policy commitments but also of a well-trained, adequately supported global health workforce capable of delivering equitable, high-quality NCD care.
